Oh yes, that reminds me of something thanks Dave.
Since I have told one of the manufacturers of alginate in the US how I mix my alginate and they added it to their instructions, I thought I should share it here.
Babies hate cold, our reg body temp is about 37 or 98 so I thought if I would go even warmer close to body temp. 98 degrees. By the time it is mixed it is a little cooler 97 or so.
The other thing I do is measure out my water, put half of the water into my container then add all of my alginate, mix it until all lumps are out and gradually add more water until I like the thickness of it.
I always get a perfect and creamy alginate and the baby really only needs to hold still for about 15 seconds, you get to know when the alginate is going to set so you just give it all you got to distract them in that time.
The main reason why I mix it that way is because of being so close to the Rockies our water is very hard, lots of calcium in it so I actually have to mix it that way or I get lumpy alginate.
I mix all of my alginate that way now and probably wouldn't change it.
I hope that also helps Issy.
Diane
