Topic Subject : Re: A new topic has been added-Alginate mixing time/method

the temperature of water has a huge effect on the setting time of alginate
now you can buy slower ones but i personaly prefere ones that set in about 3
to 4 minutes these are mixed with cool water about the temperature that
comes out of the cold tap ,in the bad old days when the only alginate you
could buy came from the dental supplers this stuff was fast and we used to
mix in glycirine and even put it in the freezer to slow it down now you can
pretty much buy it to suit you
there is a huge range available just for body casting
so bottom line lower temp water longer set also dont mix it up so runny use
a mixer if you like

I used to use a drill with a paddle till I videoed the lifecast, my model
at the time a very famous actor the drill kicked in and his face was a
picture he must have thought he was at the dentist
any way these days I do it by hand and make it way more then creamy more
like porridge it stays on the model and not on the floor
hope this helps
John
