Hi John
correct me if I'm wrong but I think Mark Prent mentioned that salt
will speed up the hardening but would also weaken the plaster
bandages.
I do know that the choice of bandages is also a big factor.
I use cheap craft bandages (about . for 20 lbs) for head casting
mother molds. the salt do kick it faster but as it cools down, it
seems that moisture creeps back into it making it soft.
what I do to correct the problem is that as soon as the plaster is
ridgid enough I place it into a drying oven at 180° for 20 minutes.
This makes the plaster rock hard.
For other casting I use J&J.

Salt will speed up the set and give the bandage greater hardness also
