An excellent point been made here by Roy the water in different regions
,countrys can really very ,when shooting black hawk down in Morroco we would
only use bottled water ,especially for the alginate it was impossible to use
their water it would make the alginate curdle and set to fast .
We had many full bodie lifecasts to do about 20 some full body alginates
,luckily there were truck loads of bottled water shipped in for cast and
crew.
Its amazing how one simple question can expand into so many different areas
that why lifecasting is such an exciting art form
enjoy every body

Re: accelerate set time:--
For 18 years, I have used Cellona Brand plaster gauze (originally made by
Carapace in Germany), room temperature water and approx 1/4 cup of salt to
approx 3 to 4 gallons of water. Never had a problem removing
gauze/cotton/alginate composite immediately upon completing the support
shell, whether hands, face, head or full torso with no deformation or
dimples.
Some geographic regions have mineral contents in tap water that will affect
plaster gauze setting strength, of which Vegas is one of those areas. I
only use distilled or spring water for all casting projects in the Las Vegas
Valley and especially the Dallas Ft Worth area.
Normally cast plaster mixture immediately into alginate and demold 2 hours
later. Never had a problem with gauze shell becoming weak. It's all in
using a quality plaster gauze, salt, water temperature, correct number of
layers of gauze for the support shell, application and learning what works
successfully for you.
ALI is an international organization whose members are engaged in the art
and creative industries. Its purpose is to promote the art of life casting
create public awareness of this unique art form, provide its members with
forums to exchange information, resources to enhance their effectiveness and
advance opportunities for their artistic success.
