Rhette, I will answer your question about dental plaster since I am the one who is advocatng its use. US Gypsum makes three different dental plasters:
Regular --- setting time of 19-20 min.
Laboratory --- " " " 6-9 min.
Impression --- " " " 3 1/2- 5 min.
All are similar to Moulding Plaster, 2000 p.s.i. compressive strenght, mixing ratio is 100 parts plaster to 70 parts H2O by weight. The difference for us is the faster setting times esp. for Impression Plaster which when used with cheese cloth is a substitute (and, in my openion, very superior) to plaster bandages).
All three are about the same price as mpolding plaster, around 25 - 30 cents a pound, if purchased from a supplier of art or building materials. Do not buy from a dental supplier is possible. Dave
