I know that Ransom & Randolph, where I purchase my ceramic shell casting
material also makes a dental plaster under Dentsply _www.ransom-randolph.com_
(http://www.ransom-randolph.com) . Their Ortho stone has 4000 psi with a set
time of 10-12 minutes. Their dental plaster has set time from 3.5 to 12 minutes
with a 1600 psi. I've used one of their plasters as a core material that I
adapted to ceramic shell use years ago. I'm not sure though about their other
plasters for use as back up to alginate molds. May be worth an investigation.
Happy New Year.
