Topic Subject : Re: Help please - repairs & finishing

Hello and welcome, Melanie
I'm an oldtime plaster user.
IF you wet the spot to be repaired before you patch it, it''ll bond and last
forever. But if you care, thick little batches won't be the same white as
the mass, they'll be yellowish. So mixing it the same as the mass cast batch
will show less if unpainted, and will take stain more like the big areas.
You must clean up patches/fills almost immediately, not "later." I use a
round yellow sponge, sold by ceramic supply houses.
You avoid "bugholes" by chasing airbubbles away when casting. One way is
vibration but often our molds are fragile. So if you are using a fiber in
your plaster, [recommended], use a wad of it to whisk all over the surface
after you've poured your batch into the mold.
You'll still have a few.
