Topic Subject : Grand Opening of Art Co-op |
|
Hey Everyone,
I just could not leave well enough alone. But I think I have stumbled onto a way to promote local artists (including myself) in this small, but growing arts community near Madison, Wisconsin.
I rented a restored storefront in historic downtown Mazomanie (the town is the site of the first train depot in Wisconsin), divided up the wall and display area among nine other artists and PRESTO! instant artist cooperative. I added the coffee shop (fair trade, 100% organic) as a revenue generator for our advertising and infrastructure budget.
We have been open (sort of) for the last month...the final two co-op members will be installing their artwork this week. But so far the response by the local community as well as the visitors to this area of Wisconsin (Frank Lloyd Wright's home and museum is just down the road) has been great.
Mazomanie has several recently restored buildings, but most remain empty..... so we kind of stuck our collective necks out to help jump start the restoration efforts.
Wish us luck!
