Topic Subject : Torso casting/pregnancy

Hello everyone, I have recently started my own business as a torso caster for pregnant women. I have done several casts of friends and family and I feel I have done well and have a gift for the process. People under estimate the difficulty of casting; it is a true art form. Any ways I was hoping to get some advise from veteran casters. First off, I know I need to start using a better product, one that will be of higher quality and set my work above the rest. I have been using the pre made plaster casting strips, which I think is probably a good base but I'm wanting to use something else over top that will give that smooth creaminess I can sand down and do my painting on.-Although, many of my moms to be love the basic white which I refer to as a "bare belly." Also, I'm having a hard time shaving down the sides of my cast afterwards to get the finish I want. I use a dremmel tool which works great, but I notice the layers of the casting strips tend to seperate some and I don't know how to fix that. I'm afraid that over time through temp change the layers will separate more and I don't want my clients calling me a year from now to complain. I want people to see the casts and see a professional finished product that they can't duplicate with just a simple "belly casting kit" from the local craft store. I would love in put and suggestions of any kind on this matter as well as marketing. Thank you for your support my fellow artists! -Carey, Baby Bellies, Inc.
