Topic Subject : Jian-Mei: "Beautiful, Strong

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to share a photo of a new commission that I just completed for a chinese physician here in Saint Louis. I call it "Jian Mei" which means "beautiful strong." The client and I wanted to have some indication of her ethnicity in the piece yet still have it retain its anonymity. There are chinese characters on the belt and other symbols on the base. We took impressions on her 40th birthday after she had been working with a trainer all year in preparation.

I wanted to share some technical tricks. The drapery and belt are added on with epoxy resin and very much become a solid part of the piece. Despite her training, I wanted her to appear in really top form so I used "duct tape" up and down her sides to pull the skin taut before molding. The tape attached near the front and is cinched across the back. This was useful in lifting and reshaping the breasts as well. It's as uncomfortable for the model as it sounds but well worth it in her opinion! Afterwards, some additional resculpting is required to remove the areas where the tape shows through.
