i am not able to help you with the literature side of things as all i have learnt, especially with resin casting has been done by trial and error
there are loads of different types of resins and they all have different curing times etc depending on which chemist whipped them up
the trick is to find one nearish to you and use them......and master their product range
bearing in mind that casting resin doesnt like being cast in big lumps.(otherwise you need to do mulitiple castings in layers) and the clear stuff is not very strong......i am talking about polyester resin
of course you could use epoxy resin which does have a slight yellow hue to it
and then there are the more expensive but better urethane and polyeurethane resins....
i am sorry but there is so much information here it is not possible for me to let it all out just like that.
research each material the best you can....there is heaps of info on the net
silicons dont vary that much i have found from different suppliers.....and you can usually get the supplier to mix you up batches to meet your requirments...thickness, working time, etc
where abouts in ireland are you
i am in london but always wanted to go to ireland....
who knows
have fun and experiment lots
cheers
