Topic Subject : Re: new lifecaster needs advise

Susanne

One of the challenges of art is achieving your vision with the materials that
are available to you. Wealth, location and instruction may be your boundaries.
You don't live in New Jersey (nor do I) where many plastics and rubber companies
are nearby. Perhaps it's easier to ship in lightweight plaster bandage. Gorgeous
work can be done with these. Maybe you have old-time plastering contractors
there, who make gelatin molds. We don't have these craftsmen here anymore.
English compaies send me literature about remeltable vinyl, maybe that is more
reasonable. Perhaps your best work should be cast in concrete or ceramic for
outdoor permanence. Please do not fall into the trap of trying to duplicate what
others do. We all come to lifecasting from different backgrounds and varied
ambitions. If you do not come from an art background, may I suggest a Sculpture
101 beginner course.
Good luck.
