Here's a brief "life lesson" horror story for ya -
My very first lifecast was done almost 30 years ago. I had never even heard of alginate, so I used straight plaster on my girl friend's torso and arms. I used a good amount of Vaseline to cover her skin.
The heat of the plaster must've been pretty bad, because her skin was more than just pink when we released the mold, but the real horror story acquired with all of the tiny little hairs on her fore-arms that poked through the Vaseline.
Long story short, her arms were stuck tight, so we had to break the plaster up into powder to free her. That poor girl.
Amazingly, she allowed me to try again, but this time only her torso.
It was a long time before I ever tried again, but thank God for alginate today!
