I've nothing against alginate, but I use it very rarely. Routinely POP has few problems. My worst 'stick' was actually alginate/pubic hair (the former was runny, the latter fine, sparse but long).
Dan's suggestion is interesting. I've just started using gum arabic to varnish moulds, might try 'varnishing' a _small_ area of a model (though how easily it comes off I don't know, it takes _prolonged_ soaking in warm water to dissolve it initially!
My one critique of some alginate torsos is that they emphasise 'breast drop' (the added weight of the alginate leads to a pose as if the model was leaning backwards). Dan's plaster technique I suspect gets nearest to 'the truth'. With POP you can of course add 'support' (which may look more 'natural' if the client anyway wants a silhouette that resembles what they look like in blouse _and_ bra).
