I have cast aluminum powder in casting resin and where the powder touches the air, it does turn dark grey. Ideally you would pour a clear resin in and out of the mold first to give a skin to the aluminum-filled main pour.
I poured a clear flexible urethane with alum. powder and it has not lost luster, but it's not suitable for large works, as it would sag from gravity.
