Topic Subject : Re: Re: Urgent question about cold cast aluminium

I've never cast with Aluminum powder, but I work with it a lot making chainmaille. A couple of item for thought. Aluminum will oxidize and that will make it dull. Bright aluminum is finished differently. The wire is drawn through a diamond powder coated draw plate. This is what makes it so shinny and it also stays shinny much longer than regular aluminum. I suspect that the aluminum powder has oxidized and that is why the finish is dull. Maybe the resin is sealing that oxidation to the powder particles preventing it from being polished. If you have a tumbler available, you might true tumbling the powder first for a few hours in water and blue dawn dishwashing soap then letting it dry before using it.
