Hi Guy,
In Canada copyright is granted when you create the piece of artwork and you do retain certain rights as to how the sculpture is displayed. If you have been in the Toronto Eatons center you will most likely remember the flock of geese that hang suspended from the ceiling. The shopping center put Christmas wreaths around the necks of the geese one season and the Artist won his case in court forcing the center to remove the wreaths as they were not part of the sculpture in the first place.
