I don't know about you Dan but I have done over 50+ full body casts in silicone alone !! Yes, silicone is expensive but I'm lucky enough to be able to afford it. And yes, 5 lbs. will do half a torso (TORSO, not including legs, arms and head). Some people just think they know it all or hate when someone else does something new or unique and the only thing they can do is call them "kids". Oh, and what does Dan mean by "over-optimistic schemes" ?? If that means trying something new than I guess he missed the whole point of being an artist. Besides, how do you gain experience unless you experiment (safely, of course) with new materials and techniques.
I remember a while back someone was making casts out of pewter. I thought that was a cool idea and asked how he did it. No reply. So, I experimented and am currently making a beutiful pewter cast that I am proud of. The process is actually simple. If anyone is interested I'll post how I did it in detail. No secrets with me.
