I first make a casting the usual way then stretch thin leather (6 grams)
over it. The secret is in the backing to strengthen it up. I use a thin layer of
wood putty applying repeated thin layers until it's build up to about a 1/4
inch thick. I also bend and glue metal banding iron into the back for more
strength and for the hangers. I use wood stains and spray sealers for the finish.
