Topic Subject : RE: Casting a wax positive

I haven't done hot wax, but I've done melted oil clay with outstanding
results. Perhaps your wax is too hot. It should be melted enough to brush
smoothly, but not be in a truly liquid state; I think that could indeed
create bubbles - the alginate has water in it, and heat and water create
vapor, which equals bubbles.

Casting a wax positive:--
Hello group

Has anyone ever made a wax positive by brushing hot wax into an alginate
mold? I've been having mixed results with this, sometimes with
inappropriate lumps in the positive that weren't in the mold. I'm
starting to think that the hot wax is distorting the alginate or
shrinking unevenly... I'm interested to hear what your experience has
been with this, and if you've found ways to make it work.

Thanks
