Topic Subject : Re: Casting a wax positive

I do wax pattern positives from almost all of the alginate molds I do. The
wax has to be done immediately into the alginate. The type of wax you use may
be causing some of the problems along with a low temperature of the wax too
may cause lumps. Once I have a wax positive I then chase (clean) the wax
surface to get rid of all of the faults. If the wax has small pin holes I use
"disclosing wax" by SS White, from a dental supply house. The disclosing wax is
smoothed into the pin holes. Larger bubbles, I use melted wax to fill the large
voids. I also make plaster casts of orange skin, while still on the meat. I
can then re-create the skin texture by pressing the plaster onto the wax
surface. I use a mix of pattern wax and synthetic bees wax to soften up the
pattern wax for my needs. Depending on room temperature, I mix at least 25% bees
wax to pattern wax. Hope this helps.
