Topic Subject : First Ceramic Piece |
|
Never let it be said that I can be held back by not knowing what I am doing. Though I would give ceramics a try for a face cast. Not having a ceramics kiln, I figured my fireplace would get the job done. Bisque fired first (sort of) then painted it with iron oxide brown paint and sprinkles of copper oxide. Then back into the fireplace to get everything nice and hot. I then picked it up with the fireplace tongs and ran it outside to a bucket filled with shredded newspaper. After the flames died down.....I took the piece inside and ran warm water over it. Next day I burnished it with some steel wool and then gave it a coat of clear polyurethane varnish.
Don't ask me why I did all this.......you know it's winter in Wisconsin and all this cold and snow can make a person do strange stuff.
Wish everyone the best for the coming New Year,
Bob
