Elizabeth
Are you pouring metal into a refractory mold or are you trying to create a
metal surface over an existing cast positive piece?
Pewter and lead can be melted on stove type burners but even with low
melting metals any moisture on or in the surface of your "plaster, cement" positive
will cause gasing from moisture. Metals like Aluminum, 1400 degrees
Fahrenheit or bronze 1950 degrees Fahrenheit, require either a sand or refractory
mold(s).
If you are planing to melt wither pewter or lead be very careful as these
low melting metal are still several hundred degrees and very toxic.
I hope this information helps. You can contact me directly at
_hotbronze@aol.com_ (mailto:hotbronze@aol.com) if you need more information.
Be careful
