Hi Janette.
I few years ago, I faced the same problem flying from NY to FL. I packaged all of my supplies in clear plastic bags and clearly labeled each - Alginate, Plaster, ... I placed ALL of my casting materials into a bag labeled "Life-casting Material" and placed it last in my suitcase to make sure it was seen first if the suitcase was searched.
Maybe the drug-dogs gave it a sniff, but I'm happy to report that nobody messed with anything in the bags.
