Topic Subject : Re: Cheesecloth |
|
Michael:
Actually, I am the guy who promotes the advantages of using cheesecloth and fast setting plaster as an alternative to plaster bandages. An article I wrote on this subject is available in the ALI Library. Tell you what, I will attach the article to a direct email to you as soon as I send this.
The below paragraph is copied from the materials list I give to attendees of my workshops. I realize that you are in the UK but i hope this helps. Please feelfree to contact me if I can be of any assistance.
"CHEESE CLOTH Used to strengthen plaster for the outer molds in life casting rather than using plaster bandages which do not work nearly as well. A second use is to bond alginate to the outer mold. See "Another Use For Cheesecloth in Life Casting" included with this material. Cheese cloth comes in weaves; what I use is 20 x 12. This seems to be the standard weave sold by standard cloth stores; however you can save some money by purchasing it in bulk from several places listed on the internet. I have used John Cole Chemical Corp. PO Box 936 San Antonio TX 78294-0936 (800) 683-7247. I purchased item 6123-A which is a roll of 128 cut precut pieces 9x24 inches. I also purchased item 6123 which is a roll 36 inches wide and 100 yards long the price was about half what it would have been at my local cloth store."
