Topic Subject : Re: quick and simple

A couple of Halloweens ago I spent a week during school holidays at a large local childrens playcentre. I was casting just fingers and had paint available for the children to paint the casts if they wanted. I had on display casts of my sons fingers painted in different designs (witches, werewolfs, aliens, etc) to look like dismembered fingers which got the kids interest. I called it 'Halloween Spooky Fingers' and it turned out to be really popular.

I used a cheaper alginate than normal (some dental colour changing stuff) and cheap dental plaster that dried enough to de-mould within 10-15 minutes. The children would come and make the mould, go off to play while the cast was setting, then come back later to paint.

I didn't make a huge amount of money from the finger casting itself but I also had a small display of completed casts (mostly framed hands and feet) which raised a lot of interest from the parents and I ended up taking a lot of bookings over the week.

I have offered finger casting at a couple of other events as a quick/simple way to demonstrate lifecasting and although have had some interest, not as much as the themed Halloween session.
