Topic Subject : Rust Patina |
|
Recently I have done several rust iron finishes to life cast torsos which I find very appealing but are so simple to do that I want to share the process with the members. Briefly, all one does is paint the torso with an iron paint and drip rust activator over the vertically supported torso. Allow some time for the activator to react and then repeat until you have the desired effect. For more vibrant shade of rust, nonreactive rust coloring can be added as well. Of course, the same process works with other metal finishes and the appropriate patina solutions as well, I just happen to really like the rusty appearance.
The torso in the photo was cast in plain Forton MG. The cloth strips are detachable.
I will be describing how to do this in detail for an article I will submit to "Sculpture Journal Magazine" and will be out in late March. In the meantime if anyone want to try this and has any questions, please free free to call me at (720) 971-0824. I would much prefer to talk than type.
