Topic Subject : Re: Hanging

Rachel,
what I generally use is some of the smallest diameter plastic coated cable 1/16 dia usually. I then get the small copper ferrules located in the electrical department at most hardware stores, usually Home Depot. You then select a suitable location on the back of the piece to attach the ends and extend up to where you want the hanging point, being careful not to extend past the top of the piece.

Then you allow a bit extra on the ends for a loop. You slide the cable thru the copper ferrule and then loop it and slide the end back in again. Place this on a hard surface and smash it down with a hammer to lock the loop in place. Dont be afraid to hit it hard to compress it-- Do this with the other side as well.
Depending on what you have made your casting out of, you then take a small amount of mixed up Forton and add some accelerator to it. make sure it starts to set up as you mix, but no too quickly. You then put this mixture on the back of where you want the ends to be, imbed the loops you made into this mixture and cover them over with a generous amount of the forton mixture. You may have to put another coat on top of this one your first try .
Let this set up completely for a couple of hours or overnight, and Viola--there you go!!

I have had no problems with this technique at all with the exception of one piece that I did this on and it wasnt compatable with the Forton. It stuck for a while but after a week or so the piece came crashing down. So it may be a good idea to do a test piece forst to make sure it adheres correctly.
Most of the plasters, hydrostones, etc type products it will work on, but some resins, plastics and such it doesnt work on too well.
