Topic Subject : The cracking..... |
|
Hi again...
So yet another question to all who have more experience than I. Recently, I have been noticing hairline to 1/16 inch wide cracks forming in my lifecasts, after I have put a few layers of hydrocal in the mold. I am thinking that this is due to shrinkage of the plaster. Looks like most of the cracks form in the belly area or under the breasts of my female casts. Wondering also if I am going too fast with the layers or if I am demolding too soon
I use primarily hydrocal. I try to go pick up my own materials, as when you start getting 50+ pounds, the shipping really gets high. Because of this, I limit myself to what the supplier has. This is what I have to choose from:
#1 Casting Plaster
#1 Moulding Plaster
#1 Pottery Plaster
HYDROCAL 105
HYDROCAL A-11
HYDROCAL White
HYDROSTONE
Pattern Shop HYDROCAL
Ultracal 30
Plaster of Paris
Would any of these work any better than the other? Not even sure what a lot of these are. Again, haven't been very experimental due to cost. Anyone have any advice?
Thanks!
Ben
