Dan,

After you have completely glued down the cap, apply a light coat of castor oil to all of the latex; even the edges. This will prevent the alginate from sticking to it. You can apply the oil with a brush, cotton balls, or a soft cloth. Also, castor oil will not damage the latex. Castor oil is the base for Rubber Mask Grease Paint. So, it is perfectly safe on natural rubber.
