Just a clarification on my posting here. In no way am I saying that I will replace the Forton system. It is my primary product for my work. If I am not using the various resins and stones as I mention in my articles in the Library-"Lifecasting out of the box parts 1,and 2" , then I am using Forton.
The issue I have, as I have seen with some other postings is the availability and cost of the system.
I have to order the product from Ball consulting, who are great people to work with each time I speak with them, but there is the downfall of the shipping cost due to the weight. It is usually about 40-50% of the cost of the product itself. I also have to go out of state to get the FGR95 which is not conveinent. There are some artist I know who have a local supplier so these things are not issues.
If that was the case, I would be using the Forton system for everything as I believe in it so strongly and swear by it.
Buy, when situations arise where I dont actually need to use it due to the cost factors, then I try something new. It may not be as good as the Forton, but it suffices for what I need. I would not consider switching my finished pieces to anything else.
So I guess all of this to say--Use the best t product for the finished works (Forton), but if you can substitute other items, then use your imagination and experiment with what is locally available and cost effective for you.
