Topic Subject : Re: Re: Re: Re: Wax Mother mold...

Dave and all,

The largest cast I have made so far with this wax method is a back (half shell), from the neck down to mid thigh, including a hand on the shoulder.
It took me 18 minutes from starting to apply the alginate to removing the mold. (I know it was 18 minutes because I recorded it on video.) It would have taken me 25 minutes to half an hour or more with plaster gauze (I am always slow and careful with the first layer of plaster.)
But that is not the only part of the process where I saved time... No need to spend time pre cutting plaster gauzes or strips of cheese cloth.

Polytek sells a "skin wax" that can be used at 122F but plain parraffin at 113F works very well. Modelling wax or investment wax are mostly microcrystaline wax that only melts at 140F... Too hot for our purpose on a live model.

A melting pot with a thermostat like you describe is indispensible. It will keep the wax at a constant temperature... A thermometer is recommended to double and triple check the wax temperature...

I would love for others to try it and see if we can improve it.
