Topic Subject : Re: Re: Re: Forton MG

Over the years, I have used four different Forton MG copycat materials including Masterworks and Aqua Resin.
1. While some may claim to new technology, as far as I could tell, they are simply Forton MG preblended except for Masterworks which is two liquids.
2. While preblending may seem like an advantage, blending the Forton MG powders is so simple as to be insignificant as far as I am concerned. Once blended, mixing Forton MG is just one scoop of liquid for every two scoops of dry blend and mix.
3. All of the four copycats have the same major disadvantage, all are more expensive than Forton MG. And I don't mean just a little more expensive, as I recall, some are double or greater the cost of Forton MG which is only about .25 per pound. See how much masterworks or Aqua Resin you can get for .25.
4. Forton MG is also easier to use. As I recall when I played with the copycats, they all set up more quickly than Forton MG. True, they did provide ample working time but if you are applying the copycats in layers, you would have to mix a new batch for each layer. But with Forton MG, I am able to mix all I need for the project, and pour out enough for a layer and accelerate it with a slash of ammonium sulphate/water (available at an garden supply and dirt cheap) and add my layer. In just a few minutes I am ready for the next layer, etc. and have only mixed the Forton MG once. This and the lower cost absolutely make up for the almost insignificant advantage of factory blending.

I have a series or articles I wrote last year for "Sculpture Journal" and would be delighted to email them to anyone who will send me your direct email address. Mine is parvinstudio@comcast.net.
