Topic Subject : Re: Re: Re: USE OF RESIN

Kashmira, you are correct, the impression is made with alginate. However, the casting of the hand or foot is made using any number of materials such as plaster (does not have to be dental plaster), hydrocal, hydrostone, Forton MG, polyester or urethane resin. However, you would not combine these materials. Also, resins do not normally do well when poured into an alginate mold. There is a product called "Watertrap" which allows one to cast urethane in an alginate mold. Have written an article on Watertrap which may be available in the ALI library. If not, I would be glad to email it to you.

However, I would suggest that you simply purchase a kit for casting infants' hands and feet and follow the directions. I would thing that you could find such kits in India. If not, contact ArtMolds. While you are at it, you might want to get a copy of my DVD on casting hand and feet.
