Topic Subject : Mold Locators |
|
I am doing a 2 piece blanket mold to reproduce a sculpture in resin. I am following David Parvin's tutorial series Great Mold parts 1-3.
In the article he mentions using the half round bumps or plastic dots made by 3M. Well, I hit about 6 stores and hardware shops and could not find them anywhere. I really like the symmetry of these so I got to thinking.
I came up with a solution that is so easy its crazy but it is exactly what I wanted and is perfect for this application. They are also reusable for many molds.
I took a round one teaspoon measuring spoon from my kitchen drawer ( I live alone so it was OK!) , I sprayed a bit of mold release in it, heated up my Hot Glue gun with standar hot melt glue, filled the spoon about 3/4 of the way. let it set up, popped it out and viola--there you go. I then just applied a drop of crazy glue to the back of it and popped it into where I needed it. I made up a few of these and I am set with perfect locators for a 2 piece mold. Couldnt have been easier!
Here is a photo of what I was doing.
