Topic Subject : Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: vacuum pump for air traps in finger tips??

I have been thinking about using a centrifuge to make the casting material flow into curled fingertips. I doubt if it will work. The problem is that the trapped air has no way to escape and even if the casting material is coming in with considerable force, the volume of the air will only get smaller but not completely disappear. Also, there are air bubbles in the alginate. At least some of the ones close to the inside surface may collapse due to the pressure causing bumps on the surface of the hand.

If you have a reusable rubber mold, you can make modifications to it and you have the option of multiple attempts to get a perfect casting. With an alginate mold, you only get one shot at it. Also, you are never sure exactly what position the fingers are in so you are not certain just how to rotate the mold to ensure that the casting material best flows into ever nook and cranny.

The best advice I can give is to try to position the fingers with as little cure as possible for whatever effect you are trying to get.
