I agree completely with Jo about ensuring the plaster has the right mix ratio. I was up until recently adding the plaster to water and 'measuring' by sight. I occasionally experienced water marks (rivulets/runnels) and it was worse with denser plasters. I tried measuring the plaster:water ratio to exactly as described by the manafacturer and the runnels stopped appearing. I now weigh it all out every time and I have not experienced any runnels since doing so.
The 'by sight' method is ok if you really know your plasters but I was surprised, particulalrly for the denser plasters' how much more plaster was actually needed as opposed to the amount I was adding previously.
