When mixing the plaster to use as a finished product, I ALWAYS measure and mix--the "by sight " method doesnt produce the quality results that you need. The manufacturers recommendations are there for a reason!!. When I am doing a mother mold, it isnt so important as I usually want it to set up a bit quicker so I might even add some Terra Alba to speed up the process.
I usually defer to Forton MG when doing a finished piece instead of the plaster tho--It is so much stronger, less brittle and offers more advantages by being able to incorporate the metal powders or other additives into it so it creates effects that you cannot get with plaster.
