Topic Subject : Re: Child hand holding a baby hand - advice please

A hand holding an object is a piece of cake. Just have the person remove his/her had leaving the held onto object in the mold. Them pore in whatever casting material you are using. The plaster, hydrocal, stone, Forton MG, etc. will fill up the hole in the alginate left from the removed hand securing the, in this case, hand. I would use a mold release if I am concerned that the alginate would stick to the hand. But be careful since the mold release might discolor the hand or cause whatever faux finish, if any, you are intending on using to be a different color. Here are a couple of examples of hands holding objects.
