Hi Adi,
I set up a fairly large pouffe against a wall and then stacked some cushions so my wife could sit with her legs either side of the pouffe and leaning back slightly. This was a comfortable position for her to stay in for the length of time it took.
I can't remember how thick the layer of alginate I acheived was - maybe half to one centimetre?
