Topic Subject : Facebook,myspace ,twitter

facebook , myspace , twitter , im curious to who here is on these site , and blogs , does anyone have an up and running blog on theyre work ,

i have only been using facebook since last year , i was skeptical about it , hearing stories i thought it was just for old friends , etc , and life is busy enough without trying to catch up with old friends , but a couple of things changed that

one was a seminar by IBM at this they divided the room into two types , one was the old gaurd who done things in traditional methods , advertising , cold calling , and the other who used what they termed 'disruptive technology' that being facebook, my space , twitter , going home early and working from home networking and making contact with these , i listened with interest , these were new ideas to me , i am not a great web person , and have used it mainly for research , a glorified encyclopedia the web is really ,

but using facebook over the last year i have seen it develop into something that is unique to me and my interests , its not what i originally thought , only for old friends , far from it , i have made new contacts and found more about what is going on in my local area , dublin , with regards to arts, business, entertainment , and now i have a far easier job of developing a marketing plan for this year ,

lifecasting is very rare here , although the colleges do some , there is ardmore movie studio only a mile from me which produces some big movies,i been in touch with the special effects and model makers there, but no lifecasting as such , this would be done in the uk , due to insurance and its limited demand, its easier this way

one would think it would be easy with no competition , but somehow it is the opposite , as it is not seen or heard of regularly , people view it a bit skeptically , great idea , but i wouldnt do it , or will if its free ,or they have seen it done with kids hands , finding a target market is hard , but thats my own problem in deciding who i wish to market it too ,

do others out there find this as well , i could focus only on kids hands and feet , and probably be sucessfull , but its not the direction i want ,

it has been a slow path , learning techniques , materials , starting this late in life has its advntages and disadvantages , had i decided to do this 20 years ago , volunteers for practice would be plentiful , but with kids , work etc , it is not so easy , as the circle of friends have no interest in the casting or participating , its kinda disheartening at times

but this is where facebook and the others come in , i have found that i have a wide target market out there , and with the proper use of this and interacting with upcoming events , it should go somewhere this year ,

for example , on an art/sculpture idea , i have an interest in tattooing and have done some work on pieces , but something is missing , the integrity of the piece i feel needs to be a reproduction of the person and theyre particular tattoo , so where do you find tattoed fems to cast , facebook and myspace , plenty around , this is just a small way i have found it usefull ,

initially i was intimidated by starting these , starting one was odd , no friends, contacts , blank sheet , etc , it had a strange feel to it , i havent been too proactive with them , and dont play games on them either , but have spent the time watching it grow and develop ,

i have two facebook , one for me , william gibb forsyth, for friends and business locally and others,

and one for casting , livingsculpture , this is interesting as i dont use it much but in less than a year i have made 'friends'with over 200 artists who specialise in sculpture , a varied and interesting bunch of folks and sculptures ,

if you have facebook , become a friend , and if you dont have one , think about it , it has huge advantages , i look forward to putting a face to the name ,

ive just looked at the work by john schoonraad for the lady gaga gig, amazing piece , something i wouldnt know about normally ,

hope this is of use to some ,and the forum is great place for info , and questions , and the museum site , well done , i like it and access to daves library is great ,

best of luck to all for the year ahead ,

gibb
