Topic Subject : Re: storing hydrostone and alginate |

Hi Michelle,
There's probably an official answer to your question, but I have some experience storing Hydrocal in my garage after a move.
After about a year in a non-climate controlled garage, the Hydrocal appeared to be fine, but it's chemistry changed pretty dramatically. It hardened in about 5 minutes, and was very grainy. Certainly not fit for casting.
Instead of throwing it away, I like using it and cheese cloth for the mother mold to support the alginate. It looks like hell, but kicks so fast that my models love not waiting for plaster bandages to dry.
Fortunately I stored my Alginate inside, and it survived my move just fine. I won't be storing either Hydrocal or Alginate in a non-climate controlled area any longer.
Hope that helps,
-Loren
