Topic Subject : Re: deathmasks |

I have had some experience they do vary from only just passed on to 4c coming out of a drawer ,firstly it can not be over stated that the relatives that are present are treated with the utmost respect I'm sure this come naturally to most people but there loved ones are lying there and must be treated also very repectfully the first one really humbled me and I felt honoured to be allowed in to this a sacred time for the familey
I was asked to be there, he was alive when the request came through ,in fact it was through ALI that the appeal was made unfortunatley he passed away the morning that I was suposed to come I was asked if I would still come I did it was his dying request that he be cremated holding a plaster cast of his wifes hand ,we did this and the hands holding each others she had put a paper cup in his hand in case of rigormortise this worked well I was then requested to do a face cast this ended up going right round his head and we got a really beautifull head cast the way to get that was to use far more alginate the normal I sepperated the alginat at he back of the head which was lying on a pillow that I had covered in plastic by tearing it the plaster bandage jacket was more of a covering that did not wrap around this was lifted off and the alginate removed it was a big lump and layed back in the plaster jacket more of a cradle
I later added more bandage to stablise the alginate I then did all my filling later I made a bronze resin cast and a marble powder cast of the head and the hands which she keeps, a plaster hand for the service ,
As I said before a very privaliged and trusted position to find your self in I became a different person after woulds this job found me ,you have to know what you are doing people that are passed on can not wriggle out of casts so a diferent kind of force has to be employed you have to use your experience and all the skills you possese to excute your job in a profesional and dignifed way
I as for infants that have passed I have not had that experience nor seek it .

------------Silica-Free & Oh So GREEN------->
NEW! MoldGel SILFREE. A revolutionary formula.
Made with all food-grade ingredients. It nourishes
the earth when discarded. 3-to-1 mix ratio yields
twice the volume as those 1-to-1 brands. Delayed
shrinkage for delayed casting - so creamy smooth, too.

deathmasks:--
hi collegues
anybody has experience, not just info but actually hands on experience with making deathmasks?
Might be interested in offering this service to the local hospitals. Especially neonatal (babies)
What should i know about casting a death person. I am worried about clean up and things like that.
thanks.
