I've never seen plaster primer.
I have been using the painters touch and krylon gesso for years now, if you want to cover some flaws you spray multiple coats, if you don't you spray light coats and it does not cover any detail, unless you want it to.
There are a few different reasons why artists prefer gesso, it doesn't yellow over time and it usually has a nice warm tone to it (depending on the brand). Another reason it is used on canvas and many other places like plaster is that is a great bonder for paint to adhere to.
For me I use it sometimes, it's a little more pricy and the painters touch line has really come out with an unbelievable amount of colours, primers, and varnishes in just the past couple of years.
Using a spray gloss varnish under iridescent colours has the same cool effect.
Of course testing it first is a good idea, since some paints don't react well together.
Thanks for sharing Alan, they are very nice and unique.
