Topic Subject : THE ALI IDEA |
|
No intention to be mean. I value your membership. I thought I was giving you the green light to expand the community. Of course your thoughts are welcomed. I did thank you for them (if you check I did it twice) and will continue to do so.
I’m not sure if you recall that we had the forum on Yahoo a number of years ago. That was a bit limited so it was incorporated here. There is absolutely nothing wrong with you staring another one on yahoo where membership isn’t as difficult to join or leave – just register and you are on.
I don’t think we have a true association with ALI if curiosity seekers can breeze in and breeze out at will. Maybe in this MTV limited attention span world that is what is desired. However, ALI should be something more clubby. It is not a forum – it is an associated with a number of attributes, one of which is a forum.
All the functions were set up so you the member can control them without interference from a big brother administrator. The only thing you cannot do yourself is add yourself as a member automatically, upload a library article or resign. For that the request must come to a central location and it must be manually completed.
This has never been a problem in the 8 years of our organization until the last year or so where members seem not only to fail to read their welcome letter which explains the rules and how ALI processes requests, but for the life of me fail to read the simple instructions at the bottom of the forum message on how to unsubscribe. Shouldn’t following a set of simple instructions, be a least one of the simple criteria
of being an ALI member? Do we want to continue to dumb it down?
Warmest regards,
Ed McCormick
