Topic Subject : Re: UK supplier slate/granit bases |
|
Ann,
I spent a long time searching for marble and granite bases. There are a lot of trophy places that can supply marble bases but they have the pre-drilled holes so were no good for me. I even spoke to a local trophy maker who spoke to his suppliers and they could only offer them in pallett quantities, not one or two at a time.
I have since spoken to two local stone workers who usually make headstones, kitchen worktops, etc. One was not interested in the business but the other was. He said he is willing to make me up bases as and when I need them out of any material they have in stock. It doesn't work out cheap but at least I know I can get them if required.
I did mention to him that there could be other lifecasters in the country who he could supply but he was not interested in getting into that. I guess because they make a lot more money out of full size worktops.
Your best bet is to go and speak to as many of your local stone workers as possible and hope one is willing to help.
Dean
