I want to go back a ways and address attaching a hanging wire to thoroughly cured plaster. What happens when a new plaster (or hydrocal or hydrostone etc.) is applied to old is that the old sucks the water out of it and the new just crumbles. As was suggested, re-hydrating the plaster will help. But a real simple solution is to use Forton MG which will stick to itself or to any other gypsum product even after it has set up and dried out. It is a good idea to paint on a little of the Forton MG liquid component, VF-812, on the area where the wire will be attached. Then just spread on some Forton MG with fiberglass. Even I didn't use Forton MG for the many things that I do, I would keep some around just for repairing old plaster. Dave
