Topic Subject : Re: Re: Re: Re: Pregnancy cast

Hi Diane
Thought that was an awesome pic for your first go. Im yet to attempt doing this but really want to have a go soon. I am a beginner - how hard would you rate it, predominantly i have done baby hands and feet, faces, 2d hands, castings of a friends breasts which i have attached a picture of, i have since shaped it in a alove heart. I have learnt heaps from this and noticed some minor dents where the cast gave way little due to weight of the stone. But have had some great tips from Dan about layering. This was a solid pour which i dont ever want to do again. But us beginners have to start from somewhere. I know im being brave putting it on this website as it is nothing in comparison to what you guys are capable of, but i really appreciate the advise i get from here.

Did you do layering on the pregnant belly cast, how did you get the colour? is it pigmented or painted? Do you have some instructions that you would say are best to follow?

I have been told to create a perimeter, then put the prostheric alginate on, before drying embed it with few pieces gypsum bandage squares, then reinforce it with gypsum bandage once alginate has set. Then remove. I use white dental stone otherwise known as hydrocal but i dont really get how to slosh it around and get the whole thing covered without it trying to run down the sides. IS this a difficult process? Dan was talking about using fibreglass pieces to strengthen in with the stone, do you use something like this?

Do you use prostheric grade alginate or normal alginate with algislow?

I would really appreciate your help. And any further info that you may think would assist.

Thanks
Ali
