Modeling clay, plasticene, plastalina.. the non-hardening clays
actually are a mix of clay powder and wax, not oil, so they soften/
harden with temperature. I've never heated mine beyond mayonnaise
viscosity but if John says it can be done..
I strongly doubt it would melt and run out cleanly. And now we'll get
into a long exchange about UK vs American plasticenes.
When pouring the actual wax, polycrystalline, you want to pour in and
pour out to leave a thin layer. Only when that is cool is it smart to
pour in next batch. Otherwise, new wax will remelt old wax especially
on inward-facing points on mold. If you poured in wax and just left
it, you'd see it shrinks into the thickest sections. Wax simply has
to be poured one layer at a time.
