Topic Subject : Morphing a Lifecast |
|
Hey there fellow ALI members!
For the last yr or so, I’ve attempted to upgrade a few old sculptures that I wasn’t too keen on, by re-finishing them or whatever it took.
Recently, I finished something totally new for me ~ morphing a lifecast into a form of abstract expressionism. As a sculptor, I really like this piece, but I question if a lifecasting purist will feel that I’ve deviated too far from the original cast.
I don’t need critiques on my photography, I’m not a photographer nor can I afford to hire a professional. Right now, I’ll settle with mediocre photos of good sculptures rather than vice versa. I would however like to know what you think about the sculpture.
I started with a cast of hips and added a 2nd cast of a pair of breasts. I cut a Styrofoam ball in half and used these behind each breast to create 360-degree spheres. The faceless head also used a Styrofoam ball creating part of the armature for the rest. The front of the sculpture reveals the lifecasts, while the top view and the back are minimalist abstractions.
As I said, for me, this is something totally different, so I’m curious what you think.
Thanks. ~ Joe
